Make your own DNA Necklace

This procedure uses DNA isolated from inside your cheek cells.
What a great gift or conversation piece!

	Materials Needed:
-	Clear Gatorade or 0.9% salt water...the Gatorade tastes a lot better!
-	Small clear container a test tube or shot glass work well.
-	Clear soap, clear dishwashing soap works well.
-	Ice cold alcohol, isopropyl or rubbing alcohol.
	IMPORTANT: keep the alcohol in the freezer until you are ready to use it.
-	Teaspoon for measuring
-	Toothpick

	Procedure:
1.	In the clear container test tube or shot glass put 1 teaspoon of the clear soap solution.
2.	Swish 2 teaspoons of Gatorade or salt solution in your mouth vigorously for 30 seconds. The goal is to slough off as many cheek cells as possible.
3.	Spit the Gatorade or salt solution into the container you put the soap in.
4.	Gently mix this solution for 2-3 minutes. Try to avoid creating too many bubbles. The soap solution breaks the cell membranes that are made up of fats - just like soap breaks down grease on your dishes.
5.	Tilt the clear container with your spit and soap solution and gently pour 2-3 teaspoons of the ice cold alcohol down the side of the container so that it forms a layer on the top. DO NOT MIX THIS
6.	Let the container stand for 1 or 2 minutes.
7.	You will see white clumps appearing - This is your DNA!
8.	Use a toothpick and gently spool the white clumps and place them in your vial.
9.	Use the teaspoon and put a small amount of the left over liquid in the vial.
10.	Use the directions given in the Fill Your Own Vial area to seal your Vial.
